Lama-Prévôt is probably one of the safest schools in all of French Guiana yet delinquency is still a menace. This week as one of our students was waiting in front of the school for her mother to pick her up, a couple of young illegal Brazilian delinquents tried to snatch her gold necklace. The girl was thrust violently to the ground and resisted but the delinquents managed to grab the necklace off and tried to flee on their scooter.
Fortunately, a police patrol was at our school at the time (their presence is requested when school is out and large numbers of pupils are leaving-- that's when the attacks occur most frequently). The police were able to catch the delinquents but one of them swallowed the gold necklace to try to hide the evidence.
Two years ago, I myself witnessed this exact kind of theft from the school library which overlooks the front of the school. (In the picture below, the students are standing under the library windows).
These incidents only reinforce the negative feelings many Guianese people have on all of the rampant illegal aliens who threaten the population's security.
I'm copying the newspaper article (in French) which relates the incident as well.
