Here are some pictures from a few months back that I really wanted to share. Back in February during the carnaval period, I got to see a really cute ceremony downtown: the election of this year's mini-king and mini-queen of carnaval. It's an under 12 children's pageant with judges and prizes for the most original and creative costumes. (Click on photos to enlarge)
Every child was announced by microphone and did a small walk on stage with lots of applause from the crowd.
Then, the cutest part, the children were asked a few questions such as "Is there anyone you would like to thank for helping you with your costume?" The crowd always got a good laugh for the many zany answers like "I thank my dog..."
When the points were all tallied up, the runners-up and winners were announced and given prizes and ribbons from the mayor of Cayenne, Marie-Laure Phinera-Horth (on the right in the white dress.)
And here they are, this year's mini-king and queen of the carnval. On the left is a sort of golden microphone street lamp and on the right is a mini carnivorous tropical plant!
